When the Behavior is Caused by an Unmet Need

You know:
1. The behavior has intensity and an extra force beyond the child.
2. The behavior goes on all the time and in all situations.
3. The child cannot control the behavior.
4. The behavior is overtly inappropriate for the age of the child.

What do you do?
1. Become knowledgeable about human needs.
2. Set appropriate limits and follow through with firmness and understanding.
3. Be consistent and honest in your communication.
4. Feed the need.
5. Be patient, respectful, friendly, and nurture the trust relationship. We can not overemphasize this point.
